Need help with your spine?

As a spine orthopaedist, I help my patients to experience a pain-free life, by correctly resolving their pathologies with conservative and/or surgical treatments that generate the least possible impact, and at the same time, allow them to achieve the best results in the future in spine orthopaedics.

In most cases, the conservative approach is the first step in treating most spinal problems; But if this does not work, you can be sure that you will have a professional who will carefully evaluate your condition in order to find a minimally invasive surgical approach that guarantees your absolute recovery in a short time.

This common and painful condition can end within a few days. I offer you a specific diagnosis and a variety of treatments that we can adjust so that your neck pain disappears once and for all.

Do you feel like low back pain is limiting your life? In consultation we will discover what is causing low back pain and what actions we can take to eliminate it.

The way in which a hernia is treated will depend on its location within the spine (lumbar, cervical or thoracic). With a physical evaluation and some imaging tests, we can define the ideal treatment.

After the age of 30, people with back pain usually visit the doctor frequently. In consultation we can analyze where the discomfort comes from, rule out major conditions and find particular treatments for each case.

Scoliosis can get much worse in growing children; In these cases, the goal is to stop the progression of the disease in time to prevent the child from undergoing surgical procedures.

Whiplash usually occurs after a traumatic event. Having a timely diagnosis serves to rule out major problems and quickly obtain the most appropriate treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Spine Specialty

Although both specialties treat the human musculoskeletal system, there is something that allows them to be slightly distinguished. Orthopedics treats diseases, disorders and pathologies developed by natural and/or degenerative causes of the body; while traumatology treats traumatic injuries triggered by an accident, a blow or trauma.

Spine specialists are the most qualified professionals to treat conditions that occur in any segment of the spine, including: bones, muscles, tendons, discs, nerves, and the rest of the tissues that go from the base of the skull to the coccyx.

The orthopedist is the doctor who treats everything related to the spine of each patient, the bones, muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons of the body, being able to effectively treat: deformities, infections, tumors and bone fractures; joint problems, inflammatory processes in the joints, malformations in the bones of the feet and hands, herniated discs, among others.

Due to the multiple anatomical structures that we have in the spine, there can be different types of spinal pain depending on the anatomical region where it is, it can be cervical, thoracic or lumbar and in each of these segments of the spine you can find atypical pain, radicular pain, stenosis pain, discogenic pain or facet pain
Apart from this type of pain, attention should be paid to "red flags" that can be accompanied by spinal pain such as: night or rest pains, weight loss, fever, morning stiffness with polyarthralgia, pain refractory to usual analgesia and neurological deficit"
Low back and neck pain is common and at least 75 to 80% of the population will suffer an episode at some point in their lives. Most spinal pain tends to be self-limiting and our job as a spine surgeon is to try to determine the cause and improve the symptomatology or the definitive cause.
Back pain is a common cause of consultation and in addition to the suffering for the patient, it implies important social and economic costs.
Chronic spinal pain is the most common cause of withdrawal from the activity of daily living, including work activity, in the population under the age of 45 in the United States.
The annual prevalence of low back pain is estimated to range from 15 to 20% in the United States and 25 to 45% in Europe.
The prevalence of low back pain tends to be higher in women than in men.

After the clinical examination of your medical history, the physical examination is an unavoidable step during the diagnostic process. For this reason, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing to facilitate medical maneuvers when inspecting, palpating, and studying the affected area.

The duration of spinal pain is totally different for each pathology.

Common low back pain treated conservatively may improve in 1 month or less, while acute low back pain may last for months; In the same way it happens with cervical pain, a cervicalgia caused by stress evolves favorably after a few days, on the other hand, a pain due to cervical disc herniation can be maintained until it is given correct treatment, whether surgical or not.

Back pain located in the middle of the spine tends to derive from overuse when performing certain exercises or carrying heavy objects; Also, by sleeping in an inappropriate position, suffering a fall, and even by frequently using a backpack with excess weight, this type of ailment can last between 1 and 3 months.

As a doctor, it is really important to identify the pathology we are facing, in order to provide the patient not only with an ideal treatment that goes hand in hand with the proper monitoring of their evolution, but where all the factors that may influence the prognosis of full recovery are taken into account.
